George Ulm, W9EVT was born in the Free City of Danzig in 1930. In the mid-1930s he moved to Chicago with his family. After W.W.II, he produced some of the first convention exhibits for the Radio Parts Show in the Windy City. His business later expanded to world’s fairs and conventions such as the CES in Las Vegas and Chicago. George is a Korean Conflict veteran, taught electronics in the Navy Air Corps, developed and put on air the first two meter amateur repeaters in the late 1950s.

George has lived in Mexico, Europe, Africa and Australia with ham calls associated with each part of the world. In the early 1960s he purchased an apple and cherry farm on Washington Island, WI. At retirement he decided to raise antennas on the property instead of fruit. He lives there year round with his wife, Susan, his dog, Ivan and a very talkative African Gray Parrot, B.B.              Web Page http://www.greengate-wibb.com/HamRadio.html

This is A Rohn 180' SSV series tower.  Self supporting at 180' W/9sf of wind loading.  This tower was located at K8YYCs property on the North side of Battle Creek, MI.  This is where we had the 443.950 uhf repeater located.  we had this linked to my 190' Rohn 45G tower located on the South side of Battle Creek.  We also had a South end link repeater system for the state wide 2M link system out of Grand Rapids, MI.  This covered the whole state of Michigan.  As you see Ken K8YYC was quite the radio man!  Abe WA8HVG was and still is in charge of the MI linked repeater system mainly located in Grand Rapids, MI.  The South repeater link is on 145.15 and is linked back to Grand Rapids Via a 220 Mhz link and comes back out on the main frequency in Grand Rapids of 147.160.  This South link covers most all of Southern Michigan and part of Northern Indiana.
